
Quick Guide to Nashville Zoo - the Largest Community Built Playground in the US
Relocated in '96 this zoo is a great place to visit with your kids and family. This zoo is spread over 200 acres area by the name Grassmere. It is located approximately 6 miles away from Nashville downtown.
This zoo operates from 9am to 6pm in the months of March and October. From October to March the zoo closes early at 4pm due to light. Adults, seniors and children are charged at $14, $12 and $9 respectively while Nashville zoo members can enter the zoo free of cost.
Open throughout the year except on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day and New Year days this is a very popular place. You need an entire day to cover this vast expanse of reserve for more than 300 animals. This place is home to over 50 different species which include amphibians, arthropods, birds, mammals, fish and reptiles.
You can visit the zoo during special events and days such as the Harvest Days, Ghouls at Grassmere an event that happens during the Halloweens, and the Nashville Zoo Run Run that happens every New Year.
This zoo has special habitats for certain species to ensure their survival and to maintain their health in the long run. Some of these habitats worth mentioning are Flamingo lagoon, Baird's Tapir, Gibbon Islands, and Unseen New World. The zoo also gives you an opportunity for adopting animals such as the Royal Bengal Tiger, Ostrich, Eurasian Lynx, Clouded Leopard and the Red Panda.
In case you want your kids or teens to be interested in animals and wildlife in general you can choose camp programs, photography programs, overnight programs, and home school programs.
