Parthenon

One of the major attractions that you will come across while you travel Nashville is the Parthenon in Nashville. Inspired by the original Parthenon in Athens, the structure in Nashville is a replica of the original, having been made to the exact measurements and scale.

The Parthenon in Nashville is undoubtedly one of the jewels of the region's history and culture and is a part of the U.S National Register of Historic Places. It was added to the U.S National Register of Historic Places on the 23rd of February in the year 1972. The Parthenon in Nashville was originally built in the year 1897.

The construction was undertaken as a portion of the proceedings for the Tennessee Centennial Exposition. Later, between the year 1925 and the year 1931 the newer structure was completed and it is this version that we see in the present day. The architects credited with having built this beautiful structure are William B. Dinsmoor and Russell E. Hart. The Parthenon in Nashville is governed over by the local government.

Any guide or manual dedicated to Nashville travel tips and advice will mention the Nashville Parthenon as one of the most wondrous and inspiring monuments in the region. The inspiration behind creating the replica of the monument in Athens actually arose out of Nashville's famous reputation as the "Athens of the South".

Owing to this flattering description, the vision for recreating the Parthenon for the region was born. A statue of Athena stands 42 feet tall and is a replica of the one that was built in Athens. The Parthenon is also used as an art museum and is important in the cultural history of the place as well.
