The Erlanger Hospital, the Parkridge Hospital, and the Memorial Hospital together constitute the hospital systems catering to healthcare needs of the people of Chattanooga and its neighborhoods. Apart from this Chattanooga also has several private medical facilities, hospitals and health centers.

The Erlanger Hospital is affiliated to the University of Tennessee and is a non-profit academic teaching center. This hospital also serves as the primary trauma center in the area, the singular provider of tertiary care for southeaster Tennessee residents, Western North Carolina, North Alabama, and North Georgia. About 250,000 people receive treatment at this hospital every year. Erlanger Hospital is also a Level-one Trauma center for adults. Since 1976, the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Hospital authority administers the Erlanger hospital. In 2008 Erlanger joined the top 100 teaching hospitals in the nation for cardiovascular care.

Tri-Star healthcare is responsible for the running of the Parkridge Hospital located in the Glenwood district east of downtown Chattanooga. The Parkridge East Medical Center in the neighboring East Ridge is also administered by Tri-Star. Memorial Hospital administered by Catholic Health Initiatives is also located in downtown. In 2004 Memorial Hospital too was one among the “Top 100 teaching hospitals”.

In addition to the above facilities, Chattanooga has over 35 hospitals, 65 medical centers and other support services.
