Though Tennessee boasts of a large number of excellent golf courses, it was not until recently that it could claim its place as a sought-after golf travel destination. The Tennessee PGA and Tennessee Golf Foundation both operating under the same roof did yeoman service in exposing these wonderful golf courses to the world. There are 5 Bear Trace courses across Tennessee and its Vice President Ron Bargatze is credited with much of the efforts in popularizing Tennessee golf.

While Chattanooga itself has a large number of 18 hole and 9 hole golf courses, across the state of Tennessee, there are more and some of them are upscale or private clubs. Yet there are other beautiful golf courses open to all and some of them even encourage players from outside the state to visit and enjoy the Tennessee experience.
