Finley Stadium

Finley Stadium, Chattanooga stands as the crown jewel of the revitalization project for Chattanooga’s Southside. The Finley Stadium seats 20,668 spectators and is a state of the art facility ranking among the best under the Division I-FCS stadiums.

The Finley Stadium has a long history though not in the same name. The1908 Chamberlain Field was among the oldest of on-campus stadiums for the nation. The City elders were actively engaged in creating a facility appropriate to take the UTC football to higher levels in tune with the modern times and a growing city. The fruition of this engagement resulted in Finley Stadium. The project involved a financial outlay of $28.5 million and about 40% of that came through private donations. The city of Chattanooga, the Hamilton County, the State of Tennessee, and the University chipped in with the rest. Visit this facility when you travel in Chattanooga to learn more about the history of the stadium.

Late Gordon Lee Davenport who dedicated the better part of his life to public service is credited with tireless effort in planning and development of this facility. He was also a great fan of MOCS football and a long time friend of the UTC athletics. He was recipient of ‘Outstanding service award’ from the UTC Alumni Council and was also inducted in to the Hall of Fame at the University.

This prestigious stadium has all the state of the art facilities including giant matrix screen, a $350,000 score board, Stadium club, press box, television and radio broadcast booths and more. In May 2005, the stadium also added an artificial turf surface.

The erstwhile Ross-Meehan Foundry abutting the stadium was renovated to be the First Tennessee Pavilion. The Pavilion has a children’s area and food and beverage concession areas providing tailgaters the perfect setting around the stadium while protecting them from weather in open air surroundings. Include this stadium in your Chattanooga travel itinerary to enhance your knowledge and experience of a modern stadium.
