Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences
The Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences is currently the only magnet school within this district that offers K-12. Ever since its opening in 1986 as a middle school, the CSAS has promoted the liberal arts curriculum which has its roots in the ‘Paideia’ philosophy. The building which houses the school itself has a long history and has remained a school through different incarnations and over varying periods of time.
The athletics department of the school has achieved significant success particularly in tennis, and basketball with the basketball team of the school reaching the state finals in the single A division. The school however, does not have a football team of its own. There are subtle differences about this school and when you travel to Chattanooga you can gain first hand knowledge of these differences.

On the academic front too, this school has been in the limelight for the high scores and the higher percentage of graduates who went on to pursue higher studies. The school also enjoys a commendable attendance rate at 96%, among the highest in the district.
The school, following the Paideia philosophy, focuses on 3 different streams of learning as well teaching - lecture, coaching, and seminars. These streams are also integrated with a goal of 80% active learning and 20% passive learning. The focus of learning is on general knowledge acquisition, not specialized learning. Similarly vocational learning gives way to liberal learning and technical learning is replaced by humanistic learning.
The professional staff and faculty of the school are richly experienced individuals with advanced degrees in diverse streams of education. The Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences had 3 different names since its inception and before the present name was adopted. Drop in to this school when you travel Chattanooga and you will be glad.
