A Quick Guide to Grand Ole Opry House - The Undisputed Home of Country Music in Nashville
The Grand Old Opera House in Nashville Tennessee, popularly known as the Grand Ole Opry House is one of the oldest and renowned music concert halls in the city. Ever since its inception in 1925, the concert hall hosted programs including country music, folk songs and dance, comedy shows and many more performances by world famous artists. From the very beginning, all the Opry shows were broadcasted by WSM-AM, the Nashville regional radio station and the programs attract millions of people from all over the country. From early 1970s, the shows were frequently televised by PBS besides being broadcasted on the radio.
The 1950s and 60s remained the most vibrant times at the Opry House when renowned artists such as Bill Monroe, Minnie Pearl, Hank Williams and many others performed regularly on stage. Currently contemporary country stars perform at the hall every weekend. The programs are broadcasted on every Friday and Saturday nights at 7 pm. These programs also feature on the website of WSM in the recent past. It is also broadcasted to various other stations around the country as well.
When everything was running smooth, the Opry witnessed an unfortunate incident in May 2010. Due to heavy flood as a result of overflowing of the Cumberland River, the whole of the Nashville area witnessed a heavy loss including the Grand Ole Opry House. Currently, the hall is undergoing renovation and is expected to reopen in September this year. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that the Grand Ole Opry House remains a favorite destination for those who are fond of country music and performing arts.
