Perfect Summer Getaway - Bring Your Friends to Nashville Centennial Park and Have Fun!
Centennial Park is an ideal getaway when planning a pleasant weekend off with your friends. This park is spread over 130 acres and once belonged to a family as farmland. You must not miss its most famous landmark the Parthenon within the park. It is more like a centerpiece that was built in the 20s to replace the earlier impermanent plaster structure replica that stood in its place.
The current structure is made of concrete and steel and also serves as the Nashville Art Museum. It currently has a permanent collection of over 60 paintings from American artists from the 19th and 20th century. It was the Parthenon that gave Nashville its nickname as the Athens of the South.
The present structure is the exact replica of the original Parthenon found in Greece. There is also an exact replica of an Athena statue which stands at approximately 41 feet and is considered to be the largest sculpture found indoors. Nashville sculptor Alan LeQuire was commissioned to build this masterpiece to the exact specifications since the original Athena statue no longer exists. It is commendable that the current statue is considered to be the most accurate reproduction of the statue that existed in Greece a few millennia ago.
If you want to visit some of the events that happen at the Centennial Park then you should visit Life and Death at a Port, Women in Mythology symposiums held at the Parthenon. The Parthenon at the Centennial Park is open all year round and closed only on Mondays. Adult admissions are at $6 while children and seniors are charged $4 each.
